Over on Boho Weddings I love to feature great wedding photography, one of my regular favourites is the lovely Helen Lisk, who always captures such beautiful weddings. When this lovely family shoot landed in my in box from Helen I was absolutely delighted that I would get to share her work with you here on A Boho Life. Her work is so natural and real, and that is what I love about this family shoot. It’s so important to capture your family on film or digital, those memories of your little ones are so important.
Big thanks to Helen for this lovely day in the life of shoot, I hope you like it as much as I do.
A few words from the Helen
My family lifestyle photography sessions are not about posing for the camera and forcing a smile. They are about capturing a family in a very relaxed way, doing what that family does, being exactly the way that family is. I don’t want the children to sit nicely and say cheese for the camera, I want to see them playing together, laughing naturally, thinking, getting cross, running around, doing the things that they normally do. I like to spend time with a family and create a set of images for them that really captures their family as they know it. I want them to be able to look back in many years time and remember just how family life was at this point.
I had the chance to do this with the lovely Simmons family, spending a morning with them at one of their favourite places, a farm owned by their friends just outside Exeter. The weather forecast was looking rather ropey for the session, but the family were really keen to get the photos done before the children did any more of that pesky growing up thing. Being a particularly outdoorsy family anyway, they decided to go ahead despite the rain and wind, and to do exactly what they would normally do. We explored in the rain, played on the swing, splashed in the river and clambered up and down the hills around the farm. We stopped for a hot coffee in the gorgeous farmhouse, then played some more inside the barn. It was brilliant fun and it gave me the chance to capture the family in all their wonderful, chaotic normality. A beautiful record of this one wonderful family, at this particular point in their lives.
