Today we are back with Ruth and the fantastic renovation project of her 4 bed Victorian house. So far Ruth has shown us round her Blue bedroom, her stunning Kitchen her gorgeous Bathroom and her open plan lounge and dinning room, all of which have been quite amazing.
Today it’s the last room in the house to look at, the Study! Ruth has done a truly wonderful job on the whole house I’m sure you will agree.
Background on the house itself…
When we first viewed what is now our home, we fell in love with its original Victorian features, huge rooms and high ceilings. It needed some love and attention as well as work in every room so we purchased this, our first house, in July of 2011 and decided to take it room by room doing everything we possibly could ourselves! Mike even did a plastering course before we moved in so he was then able to plaster every room which probably saved us a small fortune!
The Study
This room is at the very top of the house so we left it till last. Since it was the final room we refurbished, we had stored everything in it over the past two years so there were things like bits of wood and skirting, all of Mike’s tools, plaster, buckets, cloth, dust sheets, all the decorating gear..you name it, it was all stored in this room so it took ages to go through it all and clear out!

Once it was clear we got someone in to board and plaster the ceiling as it was covered in chipboard. It then took us a couple of weekends to plaster and paint the walls, repaint the skirting, replace the door and doorframe, paint around the window, affix and plumb a new radiator and finally put the carpet down!
We loved the sky window and it was in good condition so it didn’t need replacing. We felt that a blind wasn’t needed for the window and it was a good choice because you go just go up to the room at the top of the house and gaze at the stars through the window, it’s lovely. I bought Mike a telescope recently so we can take a proper look at the stars from this room!

I also really like the light fixture in this room, we purchased a dimmable Edison bulb light which, when switched on, looks something like this:

It’s the most funky light in the house!

Overall, we’re really pleased with this room, it’s so cosy and the best thing of all…it’s finally clutter free.

- Wall map: Originally from Ikea, purchased via eBay for less than half-price
- Chair: From my parents. I dyed the material navy as the original was green & white.
