Today we have a lovely post for you from Jay Emme Photography. Jay photographed Roz’s baby sons birth back in August and caught every emotion in the room. The images are so precious and so beautiful. Thank you so much to Jay and Roz for sharing these images. I will pass the blog to Jay to tell you all a little more.
‘I’m always one for life experiences. It’s rare I’ll turn down an opportunity to do something new and if that involves helping out someone else, it’s almost a dead cert that I’ll be there. So when I saw Roz’s discussion on Facebook, I thought it sounded like an incredibly amazing opportunity. I had my first kiddo at home in a birthing pool, my own mother and my mother in law are both midwives with 60+ years between them and I had done serious investigations in becoming a doula a few years ago. So, I felt confident in being able to do the “job” just right.’

‘I won’t lie, it was actually incredibly stressful leading up to the birth – I was right in the middle of my busiest wedding season, I was terrified I was going to be at a wedding when Roz would go, and I was pretty much “on call” 24-7 for around 3 weeks. There was NO WAY I wanted to miss it. So when Roz messaged me saying she felt like today was the the day, I didn’t hang around to wait and see.’

‘Shooting the event was absolutely incredible. I was very conscious that Roz was fighting the contractions, but that I had to carry on working. It was a case of deciding what was the most important at the time, and I figured I could do both. Roz was oblivious as to “where” I was in the room, so with the camera pointed at her, I talked her through her contractions. It was already obvious I needed to go “fly on the wall” style (“Ninjographer” to my friends…) and since that’s how I prefer to shoot, it all came naturally easy to me, phew!’

‘Would I do it again? Absolutely. Even though the emotional pressure was SO intense, and constantly reliving the event through editing the photos afterwards was almost exhausting…yes, I would do it again. There’s something about the expressions on Roz’s face, which convey so much in such a short moment. And then there are those little things which you may not see – seconds, minutes, hours after the birth – but they’re there to be remembered and treasured. You can’t get those back any other way.’

‘If anyone is thinking of opting to have this done, it is SO IMPORTANT that you make sure you are VERY COMFY with your chosen photographer. If I didn’t click with the client, I wouldn’t do this for them. Being able to connect is really important, since it’s such an intimate moment. Oh and yeah, I’d make sure that I’m not in the middle of wedding season, so at least I know I’m fully available!’
