Today I am delighted to bring you a wonderful collection of baby and family photography by the lovely lady that is Binky Nixon
One thing I really want focus on with this blog is good quality baby and family photography. I personally feel that family photography is still something that isn’t focused enough on in this country. We all pay out a stack of money to have or wedding photographed, so why not pay a professional to take good quality photos of your children? Is it seen as a luxury, maybe an extravagance? I don’t think so, capturing the memories of your babies when they are little and as they grow up surely is one of the best investments you can make? I have been learning to use a professional camera for the past 2 years o I will be able to capture those precious moments of my own family. I have already enjoyed taking photos of my friends babies and children and can’t wait till the model is my own baby. At the same time I have already booked in my maternity shoot and have also enlisted Binky to come along and take some photos of our little man when he is a few months old. I’m sure it won’t be the last professional shoot he wil be having, this is going to be one photographed baby!

I guess you could say ultimately I am a wedding photographer but I also photograph a lot of children, families and babies (and teens when they are game). Most of my couples that book me to shoot their weddings then go on to have babies. I keep up with all my couples via social media and when seeing that they are expecting, I get a little warm feeling inside.
Going back to a couple to shoot their child is pretty special. I have not only witnessed one of the most loving and binding declarations, with their wedding, but then get to see their family grow. Being able to document such special times in a family’s life is the biggest honour.

With babies I always gage how the family is feeling with regards to when I go and do the shoot. It is lovely to catch a baby ‘brand new’ which I guess is within the first few weeks. Sometimes though families are settling into their parenting roles and not really feeling themselves at this stage. Anytime in the first 6 months is fine, and let’s be honest they are cute at any time.
For me it’s about capturing that bond, the relationship and even the personality of the baby. The little faces, the tiny toes, the love a mother feels for her child.

Little people are probably one of my favourite things to photograph; some people might say ‘you’re mad’. Quite often mums and dads turn to me on shoots and say, “never work with children and animals, right”. The best thing sometimes is having no control over what’s going to happen. Wedding photography requires you to direct people all day long, so it’s a breath of fresh air to let kids do their thing and you catch them as they are. The little waddles, the strop face, eating lunch, arguing with a sibling. It all tells a story and that for me is what children’s photography is about.

Children grow up so fast; it’s a cliché, but so true. It is important to have their little lives, their day and their milestones captured.
- I am available for shoots called “a day in the life of………”. Have your little person captured, memories that will last a life time.

Those are such beautiful photos! I wish we had got you for our baby shoot now, our pics were ok but not exactly what I would have ideally gone for. Maybe the next one 😉
