Real Homes: Our First Home Before and After – From Laura Parker

Real Homes

As a regular feature on the Blog I will be inviting you to share with me your house decoration and renovation projects. It’s great  to see inside peoples houses at their newly decorated homes, but it’s also great to see what they looked like before so we can see the progress and just what can be done.
I hope these posts will help inspire other readers in their own house DIY!

Here’s Laura to tell you about her house renovation………..

I think the last time Boho readers heard an update from me I’d just got married! And that was nearly a whole year ago! Crazy right?

So since we’ve got married and honeymooned (Bruges: one week, heaven) we’ve bought our first house! It didn’t need a lot of work but every room was wallpapered. I hate wallpaper. In addition, we were moving from a fully furnished one bed flat into a three bed house with nothing! No bed, sofas or anything. We slept on the floor for about a week.
So six months in, as I type this I’m waiting for the hallway paint to dry, we’re almost done. Every room has been stripped of wallpaper and painted and whilst there are finishing touches to do and fixtures to be replaced we are finally creating our home.

Today Kelly has invited me to share my favourite room make-overs with you and I’ve picked my top three – our master bedroom, our bathroom and my office.

Master Bedroom

The bedroom had some ‘fabulous’ floral wallpaper that was stripped off, and we painted the room in ‘Engraved Locket’ by Dulux. The trim was painted in a nice semi-gloss brilliant white and we started stocking up the furniture. To be honest, we have an IKEA around the corner so furniture was primarily from there. Prints above the bed from Etsy and all the bedding on the super-king was a wedding gift from John Lewis. My favourite part? The fresh flowers by the bed make me feel like I’m sleeping in a hotel every night. Now if only I could persuade the Mr to bring me room service.

Bathroom

The bathroom was in a sorry state when we moved in. Bare electrics, unsealed suite and rotten floorboards. It was a larger job than we were expecting but we had an ace plumber who worked 12 hour days and found us endless deals and discounts. He also matched the existing tiles to some new ones so that we could move the suite around and maintain the old tiling. Mirror from Homebase, basin and cabinet from IKEA, bath, shower and all fitting from Victoria Plumb.

 Office

Finally, my little office. Well, we actually share it but his side isn’t quite finished, and it’s not that small. We have matching IKEA gloss white tables, and cabinet with all my files and books. The paper files are numbered with some washi tape embellishment, and the gallery wall is a combination of Etsy prints, printables and a Coulson Macleod print. I have a paper tassel garland above the desk I hand invites and memos from, and my desk is cluttered with pens, pads and the obligatory mug! The custom mouse mat is from Vistaprint. I work at this desk every day, and the white walls and personal quirks make me love this room.

So there’s three rooms finished! Hopefully Kelly will have me back again soon to share some more!
