Not Your Average Maternity Shoot By Jay Emme

Author: Boho

before the baby

Maternity shoots aren’t everyone’s cup of tea. Some women love them and have as many as they can, showing off  their new baby body with great pride over their ever-expanding bump. While others would much prefer to forget the time their body changed beyond recognition! However, these days maternity shoots come in all different  styles so there really is something for everyone. You don’t have to take your clothes off, they don’t need to resemble some boudoir shoot with soft lighting and curtains blowing in the breeze, they really can reflect you and your own environment!

This shoot sent in by Jay Emme is just that! An alternative maternity shoot that fits round the proud mum to be and her love for her new baby body!

I’ll pass the blog over to Rebecca, the proud mum to be……….

When I first met Jay I was pregnant with my first little boy. I knew other people who were having photo sessions of themselves pregnant, and could not understand it. I had found the changes to my body very difficult and unsettling, with an added fear of “will I ever be the same again” thrown in. Second time round I knew I could get back to my old body, and I found I loved everything about my body and bump.

My parents and I had taken on a house when my eldest was 3 months, which had no heating, no hot water, and needed EVERYTHING doing.
When I contacted Jay to do a bump shoot I wanted to celebrate my body, me and the wonder of pregnancy. When she said she would come to my house I did have a big pause… How could that work?!?!

With Jay it was perfect, her enthusiasm and insanely positive can-do attitude enabled me to see the house as an exciting back drop and a significant setting for my photos. The pictures not only celebrate my pregnant loveliness, they also record the journey we lived through.
When Jay came over it was feb 2013; we had fitted a boiler only a few weeks before giving us running hot water in the bathroom for the first time in 18 months. There was snow outside and no heating fitted. I was 32 weeks pregnant. We had an absolute ball!!!!
I can’t wait to have another reason to work with her xxxx
